Texas: 15 Young Latina Women Peacefully Protest Anti-Sanctuary City Ban in Quinceañera Dresses.

July 18th, 2017, was not a typical day at the Texas State Capitol. A group of fifteen inspiring Latinas each only 15 years old, came together to peacefully protest Senate Bill 4, which allows and enables local Texas law enforcement officials to request proof of legal documentation of residency in the United States during routine traffic stops.

Many of those who are opposing the new law, are speaking out stating it promotes an unjust law and encourages racial profiling. People within the community are now even afraid to drive, report crimes, or turn to law enforcement for help.

Including the young Latinas who lifted their voices and hiked up their quinceañera gowns to speak and dance against SB4. The protest was organized by Jolt Texas, which is a Latino nonprofit. Each young lady donned sashes that said things like, “Justice” or “Democracy”, as well as a beautifully colored dress which in Latino culture is worn at a girl’s Quinceañera, a traditional celebration for their 15th birthday.
