With its bold history and strong roots in Tampa, Ybor City is widely recognized as one of the original historic landmarks in Florida. Founded in the late 1880’s by Vicente Marinez-Ybor, a popular cigar manufacturer, this town was considered home to thousands of immigrants from Spanish, Italian and Cuban decent. Many of the immigrants would work in the cigar factories and restaurants that were establishing themselves along the streets of this emerging town.
In fact, Ybor City has such a rich history in cigar making, that in the past it has famously been recognized at ‘Cigar City’. Even today, the recognition and diverse culture remains readily evident when you visit. Today, this bustling town is known as Tampa’s Latin Quarter, for its distinct culture, preserved history, brick lined streets; specialty shops, clubs and authentic restaurants.
